Any self-published authors out there?

Hi, just thought I'd check in. I am a self-published author and I was hoping someone else was a writer as well. I'm working on a young adult series. The first three of the eight books planned are published. I've been having a really tough time in the way of finding a good publisher. I've just been three publishers and the one I am with now is a rinky dink outfit. I signed up with them because it was free. However I am left without much representation. I can't market or promote this thing myself. I'm really not a saleman and don't have many ideas on how to do any of it. Anyone have any good suggestions?

I'd suggest you start blogging about your book, posting stories and joining other groups of writers, authors, novelists, etc. The way the business is going now, you have to do everything yourself. There's no better way to do it. And lastly, never give up. if you believe in your books enough, you'll get them published.

I don't self publish that way. I found it was just not a good direction. So either I submit to the online publishers (I just sent something to Cobblestone) or I post my work for others to read. I belong to a group of writers who write an online serial story. The story is posted on a closed forum (members only) for the readers to enjoy. We're up to 70 readers currently and that's just by word of mouth. We've been trying to get a YA story off the ground but so far we only have 2 teens so it's floundered a bit.

Rather than go the self publishing route, I would submit to the e-book publishers or just start blogging about your writing and make your books available for purchase on your blog. Go to all the forums and blogs where groups of writers (and readers) congregate for that genre. Joining and participating in those venues will give you more exposure.
