I remember the spirit that took over my life at the peak of my addiction to cocaine. I called it my dark Angel. In my mind, I considered this Angel to be female. Maybe that was just because I'm a man. But the voice I heard was definitely female.
I remember how at first, the whole thing was just an experiment that I felt I had total control of. However, very quickly, my dark Angel took over every aspect of my life. My every waking moment and every thought involve what I was going to do next to f…

I'm tired of being sick. I'm tired of being lazy. I'm tired of being sorry for myself. I'm tired of my depression, controlling my state of mind. I'm tired of just sitting around waiting for the Grim Reaper to come. If I'm not going to get any encouragement from outside sources. I must encourage myself. I cleaned up all the clutter in my room, especially where I used to do my artwork. My life is not over yet. So I must learn to take it as it comes and get back into diligently doing the things tha…

The .....
Ahhhh.... here it is, Saturday morning, and the kids are enjoying TV that's not fuzzy with static! I don't think I've seen them happier, 'cept maybe when I was making the caramel French toast yesterday morning.
It's not going to be all TV and laziness this summer though. Noooooooo! I have a plan that I put into motion yesterday and it seems to have worked well. In the morning, after we have had breakfast and taken care of insulin application…

Tomorrow, May 26, my husband Mitch will fly the American flag from the front of our house. As a former ROTC officer in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War, Mitch always flies the flag on Memorial Day, July 4th and Veterans Day.
In anticipation of Memorial Day this year, I read the May 24th “Cross Country” article in The Wall Street Journal by Kevin Ferris titled “Protesting the Antiwar Protestors.” The article describes how Rich Davis, a 20-year veteran of the Navy who retired in 2001, ended…

When It Rains.....
As Manuel on Well Done Fillet would say........... Fuckity-Fuck!
Sorry for the language folks. We have been having some plumbing problems here at the homestead. Namely, at 7:30 at night, one of the fresh water pipes leading under the house decided to bust! Yep! H2O everywhere. Then it starts to get dark. Then it starts to rain. Then it starts to lightning!!!!! Remember yesterday when I said I was putting out ant bait because the underside of the house was infested? Yep HHH h…

It’s college graduation season – and while this season gives me numerous blogging topics for www.flippingburgersandbeyond.blogspot.com – I’m talking about something different in this www.mrslieutenant.blogspot.com post.
And this something different is that, throughout the U.S., there are graduating college seniors who, as ROTC cadets, are now being commissioned as officers in the different branches of the U.S. military.
I was reminded of this by the May 20th Wall Street Journal “Main Street” c…

Hi everyone, I was nominated for a "BestofBlogs" Award in April and I just got word that my blog Renaissance Culinaire has been chosen as a top 10 finalist.
This is a really big deal for me - I just found out today. Usually the biggest names in the blogosphere are the only blogs you see as the top ten finalists for each category - but this year I was initially nominated and accepted for a special "under appreciated blog" category for smaller blogs. I made a long list of finalists - b…

I’m always on the look-out to learn about organizations or projects helping military personnel and their families. In fact, I include several of these on my website www.mrslieutenant.com in a section titled “Support Military Families.” And I blog about other organizations or projects I find.

Alone Again....Naturally!
Well, for the next 3 days, it's just the kids and myself. HHH had to make a run upstate to his dad's, so we are doing the mommy and kids thing till Thursday. Not that that is a bad thing. Yesterday, I cleaned up the house, scrubbed the kitchen counters, and when the kid got home, we went outside and hit a few balls out in the front yard. (Baseballs, quit thinking dirty!) My son is actually quite good, much to the chagrin of his father. HHH was a football man through an…

What lies behind that great and mighty wall?
Is Heaven just a dream or is it real?
And will the sinners into Hell's fire fall?
Does all we lived for fade at death's dark veil?
Will darkness be the only thing we see,
And will we just be dead, and fill a grave?
Or will our souls find immortality,
And does the Lord look down, our souls to save?
In times of trouble, when I sit and pray,
I often ponder, does God really hear?
And as we fast approach our dying day,
Do we just hope for God, because of…

I think, because of all the corruption I saw when I was involved with the First Love Christian Church, and all the bad things I have heard and read about that have been happening with other church groups and denominations it kind of puts my faith on shaky ground. Not only what's happening in the church even the nonbelievers have reached a new peak of corruption and deception.
I didn't want anyone to think that I lost my trust in Jesus Christ as the savior. It's just that sometimes faith is a li…

I must give some credit to the fact that I'm still here, to those who practice religion. Because there was a time in my life. When I reached what they call rock bottom. On that particular day, I was contemplating suicide. I was dead broke living in the streets or sometimes in homeless shelters. I had spent 10 years avoiding life by staying intoxicated on various illegal drugs. I was completely separated from my true friends and family members. Of course this was my choice, because of my embarras…

Something always brings me back to you.
It never takes too long.
