So my niece and nephews start school next Monday. We got their supply list early in the summer, but of course procrastination takes the upper hand and well, you know the rest of the story. I can’t believe the amount of supplies that kids are required to bring in. Dry Erase Markers and a Board Eraser. Antibacterial Hand wipes and gel. They’ve got to bring red pens and File folders as well. These aren’t supplies for the children. These are supplies for the teacher. It’s crazy. So now my sister is sitting with this massive amount of supplies that all have to go in on the first day of school. She’s had to label EVERYTHING because you know how it is with three kids. “That’s my pencil sharpener!” “No, it’s MINE!” “That’s my ruler!” “No, I had that ruler last year, it’s mine!”. So she does indeed sit down with a label maker and she makes labels for all of the things such as sharpeners, rulers, scissors, markers, etc. They still fight over things, but it’s at least not as bad.
I think I’ll ask the teacher when I go to the first open house what happens to all of the supplies that the kids bring in in the beginning of the year. I think maybe I should label my niece and nephews names on the dry erase markers and the erasers and the red ink pens. That way, if they aren’t used by the end of the year, the teacher can send them home with them! Good idea, no? What ever happened to school systems giving the teachers the supplies they need with which to teach? It’s amazing!
It has been so windy here today. I thought for a second that it was hurricane weather outside. I ended up taking a quit walk into the supermarket and nearly got blown into the next town. AND it started a torrential downpour of rain. I was smart enough this time though to wear a jacket and take an umbrella. Normally I screw that up and end up looking like a drowned rat. The weather patterns here will never cease to amaze me. Well scratch that…there is no PATTERN! That’s what amazes me!
Looking for some great eyeglasses? Hoping to spend only a small amount of money and not your kid’s college fund on your frames? Check out EyeBuyDirect.com. They have frames as low as $7.95. And I checked them out. They have fashionable stuff. I definitely wouldn’t be embarrassed to be seen in their line of frames that are available. I’m happy with what I have right now but when I get ready to get something new, I’m going to go with them. I like knowing I can look classy and stylish and see and save money. That’s a good combination for a happy Jill!
It’s hard watching the Olympics when all of the commentary is in Dutch. I just don’t seem to be following it as well as I normally do. I mean, I can understand some things, but I have to be paying really close attention. If I am trying to multi-task and so forth, then I totally miss out on stuff. I think I should probably just give up on it this year. It’s just not working out for me with this whole language barrier. I am getting better in the grocery stores though and I’ve ventured into the city center on my own a few times. I’m getting there, little by little.
Needless to say, I’ve not been getting much relief from my headache today as there are home improvements going on in the house. Richard and Tracey are building a new wall upstairs in their bedroom in order to make a third bedroom. Today the electricity is being wired and there is lots of grinding and sawing and drilling and banging taking place. They’re also planning on installing a LCD tv mount in their bedroom in the next month. All in all though, I’d say things are running pretty smoothly. I haven’t heard much cussing coming from upstairs and I’ve not seen any blood either. So all appendages are in tact at this point and no unwanted holes have been formed. There is also still electricity running to the downstairs so that’s a good thing. Once the dust settles, I’ll go upstairs and have a look to check out the day’s progress but for now, I’m hibernating downstairs away from the power tools and their user!
